1. What Vane Is
Vane is a personal travel intelligence app that helps you understand how a destination's climate will feel on your body — and what to pack, wear, and do based on your individual health profile. Vane is operated as an independent product. By using Vane, you agree to this Privacy Policy.
2. Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account, we collect your name and email address. Passwords are stored as secure hashed values — we never store your raw password.
Health & Preference Profile (Optional)
To personalize advice, you may choose to provide: body thermostat preference (run cold/hot), sun sensitivity level, skin type, allergy information (e.g., pollen, dust, mold), medical flags (e.g., asthma, respiratory conditions), fitness level, mobility notes, dietary needs, special needs (e.g., wheelchair access, low vision), and pet information. This information is stored only to improve your travel and event recommendations. You are never required to provide it, and you can delete it at any time from your profile.
Health data disclosure: Vane does not connect to Apple Health, Google Fit, or any health platform. All health-related information is self-reported by you and used solely to personalize packing lists and activity advice. It is stored securely on Vane's servers, never sold, and never shared with advertisers or third parties.
Trip Information
We store trips you save — including destination, home city, travel dates, and the AI-generated advice snapshot for that trip. After your trip, you may optionally rate how accurate Vane's advice was. This feedback improves your future recommendations.
Location Data (Optional)
If you grant location permission, Vane uses your device's GPS coordinates to automatically set your home city for local weather. Your precise location is never stored — only the resolved city name is saved to your profile. You can deny or revoke location permission at any time in your device settings, and enter your city manually instead.
Push Notifications (Optional)
If you enable push notifications, Vane stores a notification token linked to your account to send event-day reminders (weather, traffic, what to wear). You can disable notifications at any time from your profile or device settings. We do not use push tokens for marketing.
Usage Data
We collect anonymous usage signals (e.g., destination searched, activity type, travel month) to improve Vane's overall accuracy. This data is never tied to your name or email.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To generate personalized packing lists, do/don't advice, and weather grounding specific to your body profile
- To remember your preferences across trips so you don't have to re-enter them
- To improve Vane's AI accuracy over time using your post-trip feedback
- To send transactional emails (account verification, password reset) — never marketing without your consent
4. We Do Not Sell Your Data
Vane does not sell, rent, or share your personal information with advertisers or third parties for marketing purposes. Period.
5. Third-Party Services
Vane uses the following third-party services to operate:
- Vercel — cloud hosting and database storage
- Open-Meteo — free, no-account weather API for real-time conditions
- Google APIs — pollen data and air quality information
- Anthropic Claude API — AI reasoning for personalized travel advice
Each service has its own privacy policy. Your email and health profile are not shared with weather or AI providers — only anonymized climate parameters are sent.
6. Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored in a secure PostgreSQL database hosted on Vercel's infrastructure. Connections are encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS). Passwords are never stored in plain text. We retain your data for as long as your account is active.
7. Your Rights & Data Deletion
You have the right to:
- Access all data Vane holds about you
- Correct inaccurate profile information at any time via your profile settings
- Delete your account and all associated data permanently from your profile page
- Export your trip history (coming soon)
To delete your account and all data, go to Profile → Delete My Account. This is permanent and cannot be undone. You may also request deletion by emailing us at privacy@vaneapp.app.
8. Children's Privacy
Vane is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as Vane grows. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or by a notice in the app before the changes take effect.
